The Human Spirit Needs A Place Where Nature Has Not Been Rearranged By Man
Humans across the globe spend a substantial amount of their time indoors and the enclosure they are a part of have a profound impact on their health and well-being. Biophilia is the humankind’s innate biological connection with nature. It helps explain why crackling fires and crashing waves captivate us; why a garden view can enhance our creativity; why shadows and heights instil fascination and fear; and why animal companionship and strolling through a park have restorative, healing effects.
At Nitish Mahajan Architects, we believe that it’s a very intrinsic human behaviour to have a connection with the natural environment and this is the thinking that guide our design & philosophy that we all believe in. Biophilic design elements are shown to reduce stress, increase cognitive performance, improve healing, and positively affect emotion, mood, and preference (Browning et al., 2014). Our design philosophy leans towards a similar approach which seeks to connect building occupants more closely to nature. The open floor plans, free flowing spaces, use of natural elements and seamless connectivity of inside and outside are the design considerations that we believe help in creating a more productive and a healthy built environment for people.
